R390 GT1 Pennzoil: A Legendary Livery Reborn

R390 GT1 Pennzoil: A Legendary Livery Reborn

Few racing machines embody endurance and passion like the Nissan R390 GT1. Built for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the late 1990s, it carried both speed and stamina across one of the most demanding stages in motorsport history. This now road legalized car features the Pennzoil livery inspired by the GT-R (R33 and R34) with which Érik Comas claimed his JGTC championships an idea born between Comas and Benoit Fraylon.

And now, thanks to a collaboration sparked by nothing more than a sketch, its spirit lives on in a very unexpected form: socks.

It all started when our designer, André Aguiar, a lifelong racing enthusiast, illustrated the original R390 GT1. His sketches led to conversations with Érik Comas himself and to creating a tribute sock inspired by his Lancia 037 Eminence. And this year, with Pennzoil livery featuring this unicorn, this pair of socks had to come into play, with an exchange of ideas with Comas, along with Benoit Fraylon of Le Mans Heroes, resulting in a design that celebrates not only a legendary car, but also the community and passion that motorsports creates.

For Comas, the Pennzoil colors are more than a livery. They represent triumph his back-to-back JGTC titles in 1998 and 1999 with the Nissan GT-R, and the unmistakable legacy of yellow and black that became iconic both on the track and in the virtual world of
Gran Turismo. Bringing those colors onto the R390 GT1, now road-legal thanks to Benoit’s vision, was about uniting history with a second life.

This same spirit runs through our Pennzoil R390 GT1 socks. Like endurance racers at Le Mans, they’re built for the long haul bold in design, made to last, and carrying a story that bridges eras, drivers, and fans. What began as a simple sketch is now a wearable tribute to passion, persistence, and one of motorsport’s most captivating chapters.
