TurboPanzer Socks
After new FIA regulations forced 917's to abandon European endurance racing, Porsche turned its sights across the pond, to the Can-Am. With a twin-turbo 5.4l flat-12 1200hp monster of an engine, the 917/30 became the most powerful and fastest racing car of its time, with a top speed of 375 km/h (233 mph).
It dominated the '72 and '73 Can-Am and drew anger and despair from the naturally aspirated American V8-powered teams. After much pressure, Can-Am banned turbocharged engines for the'74 season, effectively forcing Porsche to drop out of the series. Without the excitement of the villain 917/30, the Can-Am was canceled the following season, further elevating the legendary bad boy status of the 'Can-Am Killer'.
Here, in our favourite 917/30 Sunoco livery.
