Fast Eddie Socks
We could only speak about his war numbers to justify our admiration and choice to feature Fast Eddie in our collection. But Eddie Rickenbacker was so much more than that...
Eddie arrived at WW1 as one of the top racecar drivers in the United States, after competing in the first Indianapolis 500 and broke several records at Daytona. It was literally his skills behind the wheel that took him to the skies!
After a stint as a chauffeur on the staff of General John J. Pershing, he made his way into the newly formed Army Air Service.
The move couldn't have turned out better, as Rickenbacker ended the war as America’s “ace of aces” with a total of 26 victories to his name.
The precision and efficiency with which he maneuvered both aircraft and cars demonstrated his virtuosity. His daredevil behavior was the same in the skies as on the track.
