Porsche Tartan ❤️‍🔥

Born in the Scottish Highlands, with each pattern associated with a specific clan, tartan fabric has since taken the world by storm.

With its special mix of high style and homeliness, history and contemporary edge, tartan’s intricately woven lines seem to come together to tell a story – whether it’s a Scottish warrior’s victory tale, or Sex Pistols Johnny Rotten’s infamous court appearance in punk’s heyday. From Queen Victoria to Vivian Westwood, tartan's widespread adoption made it a symbol of British identity.

In the mid-20th century, things took an unexpected turn when tartan found its way into the automotive world through luxury car brands. The first-ever Porsche model to feature the iconic fabric in its interior was the Porsche 911 Targa from the 1970s. Introduced as a limited edition, this model not only boasted the sleek sporty design synonymous with Porsche, but also incorporated the classic pattern into its upholstery.

Each Porsche model adorned with tartan
tells a tale of elegance, sophistication, and a commitment
to craftsmanship. From limited editions to personalised
commissions and modern reinterpretations, the Porsche
Tartan has become more than just a fabric.

One of the most iconic and celebrated use of tartan in a car was the Porsche 911 Turbo “Louise” – the first 911 Turbo ever, gifted to Louise Piëch, daughter of Ferdinand Porsche, by her brother Ferry, on her 70th birthday.

Unlike the regular production examples of the 911 Turbo, this car featured a narrow-chassis 911 Carrera body, yet debuted the large Turbo rear wing. It was distinguished by its use of tartan in the red interior, which was handpicked by Piëch to go with its silver paintwork
